How to: Honda 2001-2019 CR-V Oil Maintenance Required Indicator Reset

The Honda CR-V is a compact crossover SUV manufactured by Honda since 1995 and introduced in the North American market in 1997. It uses the Honda Civic platform with an SUV body design. The CR-V is Honda’s mid-range utility vehicle, slotting between the smaller Honda HR-V and the larger Honda Pilot. Honda states “CR-V” stands for “Comfortable Runabout Vehicle“ while the term “Compact Recreational Vehicle” is used in a British car review article that was republished by Honda.
Honda began producing the CR-V in Sayama, Japan, and Swindon, UK, for worldwide markets, adding North American manufacturing sites in East Liberty, Ohio, in 2007; El Salto, Jalisco, Mexico, in late 2007 (ended in early 2017); Alliston, Ontario, Canada, in 2012; and Greensburg, Indiana in February 2017. The CR-V is also produced in Wuhan (Hubei province) for the Chinese market by the Dongfeng Honda Automobile Company, a joint venture with Dongfeng Motor Corporation.

- Turn off the engine.
- Press and hold the Select/Reset button on the instrument panel, then turn the ignition switch to the ON (II) position.
- Hold the button for about 10 seconds until the indicator goes off.

Resetting the Engine Oil Life Display
Your dealer will reset the display after completing the required maintenance service. You will see ‘‘OIL LIFE 100%’’ on the information display the next time you turn the ignition switch to the ON (II) position.
If maintenance service is done by someone other than your dealer, reset the maintenance minder as follows:
- Turn the ignition switch to the ON(II) position.
- Press the select/reset knob repeatedly until the engine oil life is displayed.
- Press the select/reset knob for about 10 seconds. The information display shows the reset mode initial display as shown.
- Select the ‘‘OIL LIFE’’ indicator by turning the select/reset knob. The display begins to blink. Push the same knob to enter this setting.
- The engine oil life and the maintenance item code(s) will begin to blink. Push the select/ reset knob to reset.
- The maintenance item code(s) will disappear, and the engine oil life will reset to ‘‘100.’’

- Press MENU.
- Select Maintenance Info.
- Press the SOURCE button to enter reset mode. Select Yes. The maintenance codes disappear, and the engine oil life display returns to 100%.

If you change or replace the vehicle’s engine oil yourself, you must reset the engine oil life.
Models with information display.
- Press the TRIP knob in the instrument panel until the engine oil life appears in the display.
- Press and hold the knob for 10 seconds or more, until the display begins to blink.
- Press and hold the knob for 5 seconds or more. The engine oil life display returns to 100%.
Models with Driver Information Interface
Use the steering wheel buttons to make and enter selections
- Scroll to the Maintenance Minder screen, and select it.
- Press and hold the ENTER button for about 10 seconds to enter the reset mode.
- Scroll to the maintenance item you want to reset (or All Due Items), and select it.
Models with Display Audio
- Use the touchscreen to make and enter selections.
- From the HOME screen, select Settings.
- Select Vehicle.
- Select Maintenance Info.
- Select Select Reset Items.
- Select an item on the list to reset.
NOTICE:
Failure to reset the engine oil life after a maintenance service results in the system showing incorrect maintenance intervals, which can lead to serious mechanical problems.
