First Generation (1999-2006)

This generation uses a traditional physical key with separate remote key fob. Programming Procedure:<>

  1. Close all vehicle doors.
  2. Insert the key into the ignition.
  3. Hold down the power UNLOCK button on the driver’s door panel. Continue holding until step 9.
  4. Perform steps 5-8 quickly:
  5. Turn ignition to ON position (do not start engine).
  6. Turn ignition to OFF position.
  7. Turn ignition to ON position.
  8. Turn ignition to OFF position.
  9. Release the power unlock button. The doors will lock/unlock automatically.
  10. On the remote, hold LOCK and UNLOCK buttons simultaneously until doors lock/unlock (may take up to 30 seconds).
  11. Repeat step 10 for any additional remotes, including existing ones.
  12. Turn ignition to ON to exit programming mode.

Second Generation (2007-2013)

Uses a switchblade-style key with integrated remote buttons. Programming Procedure:<>

  1. Insert key and turn to ON position to access Driver Information Center.
  2. Press vehicle information button until “PRESS TO RELEARN REMOTE KEY” displays.
  3. Press set/reset button until “REMOTE KEY LEARNING ACTIVE” displays.
  4. Press and hold LOCK and UNLOCK on the remote simultaneously for 15 seconds until you hear a chime, indicating remote is programmed.
  5. To program additional remotes, repeat step 4. Maximum of 8 remotes can be programmed.
  6. To exit, turn key off and remove. Test remotes.

Third Generation (2014-2018)

Introduced a push-button start system with a more advanced key fob design. Programming Procedure:<>

  1. Have at least two working key fobs. One must have a physical key to unlock the door.
  2. Get in the driver’s seat and close all doors.
  3. Press ENGINE START/STOP button without pressing brake pedal to enter Accessory Mode.
  4. Press and hold the fob’s LOCK and UNLOCK buttons until the turn signals flash (about 15 seconds). The vehicle is now in programming mode.
  5. Within 10 seconds, press any button on the next fob to program it. Turn signals will flash again to confirm.
  6. Repeat step 5 for any additional fobs.
  7. To exit programming, press the ENGINE START/STOP button.

The latest Silverados use an advanced two-way remote key fob with push-button start.
