What is the Battery Matching Function of the OBD Scan Tool?

Battery Matching  Function

For some car models, it is important to do programming/matching/Reset and coding to the new battery to make sure it works properly. The electronic control unit (ECU) for the vehicle’s charging system requires the battery’s properties (Ah rating, AGM or lead/calcium, RC rating) in order to determine the most effective charging algorithm. Overcharging or undercharging can be harmful to the battery and the charging system in your car if the algorithm is not calibrated properly.

What is the Battery Matching Function of the OBD Scan Tool?

What is the Battery Matching Function of the OBD Scan Tool? This function enables you to perform a resetting operation on the monitoring unit of vehicle battery, in which the original low battery fault information will be cleared and battery matching will be done. Battery matching must be performed in the following cases:

Battery matching must be performed in the following cases

A) Main battery is replaced. Battery matching must be performed to clear original low battery information and prevent the related control module from detecting false information. If the related control module detects false information, it will invalidate some electric auxiliary functions, such as automatic start & stop function, sunroof without one-key trigger function, power window without automatic function.

B) Battery monitoring sensor. Battery matching is performed to re-match the control module and motoring sensor to detect battery power usage more accurately, which can avoid an error message displaying on the instrument panel.

What Happens When You Don’t Match/Register The New  Battery

What Happens When You Don’t Match Register The New  Battery

If the battery is not matched, the ECU does not recognize it as new and continues to drive the charging cycle as if it were the old battery. This reduces fuel economy and significantly reduces the service life of the new and unmatched battery. Over time, this means you’ll spend more money on replacement batteries.

How the OBD Scan Tool Can Help with Battery Matching

How the OBD Scan Tool Can Help with Battery Matching

  • Register / Code New Batteries Into Car’s ECU
  • Store New Data (Battery Brand, Serial Number & Part Number)
  • Clear Previous Battery Data
  • Clear Battery/Voltage Fault Codes.
