How to Read Hyundai OBD 1 Codes

This tutorial will work for the following  Hyundai Cars Model: Excel 1990-2000,Lantra 1991-20000,Coupe 1990-2000,Sonata 1989-2000,Pony 1990-1994,Accent 1995-2000

Accessing trouble codes

  • Ensure ignition switched OFF.
  • Connect analogue voltmeter between data link connector (DLC) terminals 1 and 12 Fig. 1 .HYUNDAI OBD1 socket location and jumper settings
  • Switch ignition ON.
  • Count voltmeter needle deflections.
  • Note trouble codes. Compare with trouble code table.
  • Each trouble code consists of two groups of one or more needle deflections Fig. 2 .
  • Long deflections indicate the ‘tens’ of the trouble code Fig. 2 [A].
  • Short deflections indicate the ‘units’ of the trouble code Fig. 2 [C].
  • A short pause separates each deflection Fig. 2 [B].
  • A long pause separates each trouble code Fig. 2 [D].
  • For example: Trouble code 12 displayed Fig. 2 .
  • Rectify faults as necessary.read hyundai obd 1 codes using code pattern
