How to Read Hyundai OBD 1 Codes
This tutorial will work for the following Hyundai Cars Model: Excel 1990-2000,Lantra 1991-20000,Coupe 1990-2000,Sonata 1989-2000,Pony 1990-1994,Accent 1995-2000
Accessing trouble codes
- Ensure ignition switched OFF.
- Connect analogue voltmeter between data link connector (DLC) terminals 1 and 12 Fig. 1 .
- Switch ignition ON.
- Count voltmeter needle deflections.
- Note trouble codes. Compare with trouble code table.
- Each trouble code consists of two groups of one or more needle deflections Fig. 2 .
- Long deflections indicate the ‘tens’ of the trouble code Fig. 2 [A].
- Short deflections indicate the ‘units’ of the trouble code Fig. 2 [C].
- A short pause separates each deflection Fig. 2 [B].
- A long pause separates each trouble code Fig. 2 [D].
- For example: Trouble code 12 displayed Fig. 2 .
- Rectify faults as necessary.
Erasing trouble codes
- Ensure ignition switched OFF.
- Disconnect battery earth lead.
- Wait 15 seconds.
- Reconnect battery earth lead.
WARNING: Disconnecting the battery may erase memory from electronic units (e.g. radio, clock)
