A fast and easy to follow instruction on how to program the Toyota Matrix RKE Keyfob from the years 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2014.<>

Toyota Matrix 2003-2008 RKE Keyfob Programming

  1. Prepare Vehicle

    With the key OUT of the Ignition, OPEN and UNLOCK the Driver’s door.<>

  2. Enter Programming Mode – Step 1

    Perform the following steps within 5 seconds:<>

    a. INSERT key into Ignition (Do NOT turn) and PULL the key out.<>

    b. INSERT key into Ignition (Do NOT turn) and PULL the key out.<>

  3. Enter Programming Mode – Step 2

    PERFORM the following steps WITHIN 40 seconds:<>

    a. CLOSE then OPEN Driver’s door.<>

    b. CLOSE then OPEN Driver’s door.<>

    c. INSERT key into Ignition (Do NOT turn) and PULL the key out.<>

  4. Enter Programming Mode – Step 3

    PERFORM the following steps WITHIN 40 seconds:<>

    a. CLOSE then OPEN Driver’s door.<>

    b. CLOSE then OPEN Driver’s door.<>

    c. INSERT the key into the Ignition and LEAVE it in the Ignition.<>

    d. CLOSE the Driver’s door.<>

  5. Enter Programming Mode – Step 4

    TURN the Ignition to ON position (Do NOT crank engine) then back OFF.
    – Do this ONCE to retain existing remotes programmed and ADD NEW remote..
    – Do this TWICE to ERASE all existing remotes programmed and ADD NEW remote.
    – Do this THREE times to CHECK how many remotes are programmed to the vehicle.
    – Do this FIVE times to ERASE all existing remotes programmed.<>

  6. Enter Programming Mode – Step 6

    REMOVE key from Ignition. The power door locks will respond by cycling the locks from LOCK/UNLOCK to signal successful entry into Programming Mode.<>

  7. Program Remote

    Perform the following steps within 40 seconds:<>

    a. PRESS and HOLD the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on the remote simultaneously for 2 seconds. RELEASE.<>

    b. PRESS and HOLD the LOCK button and hold for 2 seconds. RELEASE.<>

    The vehicle will respond by cycling the locks from LOCK to UNLOCK to indicate successful programming of the remote.<>

  8. Program Additional Remotes

    REPEAT Step 7 for any additional remotes to be programmed, including working ones.<>

  9. EXIT Programming Mode

    OPEN Driver’s Door to EXIT Programming Mode.<>

  10. Test Remotes

    TEST all remotes. Programming is complete.<>

Programming Notes:<>

  • Verify the following prior to following these instructions:
    • Your vehicle is equipped with keyless entry, and
    • You have a key fob remote that is compatible with your vehicle.
  • Obtain ALL remote transmitters for this vehicle.
  • If you have a remote head key with a transponder chip, this procedure will ONLY program the remote portion. You’ll need a Professional Auto Locksmith to cut and program the transponder key that will start the vehicle.
  • If you have a remote head key without a transponder chip, this procedure WILL work for your vehicle.
  • This procedure DOES NOT work for smart proximity remote key fobs.

Toyota Matrix 2009-2014 RKE Keyfob Programming

  • Deriver’s door open, all others doors closed, key transmitter removed from ignition switch
  • Within 5 seconds: Insert and remove the key transmitter from the ignition switch twice
  • Within 40 seconds: Close and open driver’s door twice. Insert and remove the key transmitter from the ignition switch
  • Within 40 seconds: Close and open deriver’s door twice. Insert the key transmitter into the ignition switch and close the deriver’s door
  • Within 40 seconds: Switch ignition ON and OFF once to programm a key transmitter code whilst retaining the original codes or twice to program a key transmitter code whilst erasing the original codes. Three times to check how many key transmitters are currently registered or five times to erase all registered codes. Remove key transmitter from ignition switch
  • Within 45 seconds: System should now lock and unlock vehicle once, twice or five times depending which mode has been selected, or one to four times slowly to indicate number of key transmitters registered
  • If programming mode selected: Press and release LOCK and UNLOCK buttons simultaneously. Press LOCK and UNLOCK button
  • System should now lock and unlock vehicle once to confirm registration or twice to indicate registration has failed
  • Within 40 seconds: Repeat button procedure to program remaining key transmitters
  • NOTE: TO exit programming mode: Open driver’s door. Also note that a maximum of 4 key transmitters can be programmed.
