Learn on How to Access the EGR Learning Value Reset in the OBD Scanner
EGR Learning Value Reset is one of the functions that can be found in certain diagnostic scanners or scan tools. It is utilized for resetting learned values or adaptive parameters concerning EGR system in a vehicle’s ECM/PCM.
The exhaust gases from the engine are passed back into its intake manifold through the EGR system for reducing harmful nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions. The ECM/PCM learns and adapts to various conditions of operation of this EGR system like load, engine temperature and driving conditions over time.
Sometimes, repair work or maintenance service on EGR system or attached components requires resetting the ECM/PCM stored learned values or adaptive parameters. This learning allows the ECM/PCM to adjust itself accordingly to these new parts by ensuring that it operates properly.
Some common situations where you might need an EGR Learning Value Reset include:
1. When you replace an old EGR valve with a new one
2. Clean or service your vehicle’s entire EGR systems
3. Replacing intake manifold connected gaskets with a new type
4. A new model of ECM/PCM replaces an old one
Once you reset the ECM/PCM, with the OBD scanner it will begin to adapt and optimize the EGR function according to the conditions and parts. This adjustment might require some driving time. Can differ based on the make and model of your vehicle.
It’s worth mentioning that not every OBD diagnostic scanner or scan tools include the option for resetting EGR Learning Values. Moreover the steps and process, for carrying out this reset could differ across vehicle brands and models.
