Brief Information About Volvo V70
The Volvo V70 is an executive car manufactured and marketed by Volkswagen Cars from 1996 to 2016. It was based on the P80 platform and was available in front- and all-wheel-drive (AWD) or crossover versions. In 1997, a crossover version called the V70 XC, or V70 Cross Country, was introduced. The second generation (2000–2007) debuted in spring 2000, and for model year 2003, the crossover was renamed to XC70. The third generation (2007–2016) closed in February 2007 and produced until May 13, 2016.
The first generation (1996–2000) was an improved development on the basis of the Volvo 850 estate, featuring a redesigned front end, fully painted bumpers, side trim, and clear indicator lenses. New seats, door panels, and dashboard were redesigned, and standard equipment was improved with remote central locking, heated and electrically adjustable mirrors, two front and two side airbags, power brakes with ABS, and power windows. The V70 XC was introduced in 1997 as a crossover version of the V70, featuring standard all-wheel drive and an optional third row seat with increased occupant capacity. It was available only in markets with high taxes on cars with an engine capacity of more than 2000 cc, with a 95-liter tank in the trunk allowing for a claimed range of 250 km (155 mi). The temperature gauge in the instrument cluster was replaced by a level gauge for the gas tank.
Other options, such as a trip computer and sports suspension, were not available for bi-fuel models. The V70 is a US car with 16-inch alloy wheels, 17-inch wheels, and various upgraded stereo systems. It was available in six colors for 1998, with Black Stone, Nautic Blue, Silver Metallic, Coral Red, Regency Red, and Saffron only available for the V70 R. Variations included a front-wheel drive (FWD) and an all-wheel drive (AWD), with either a 4-speed automatic or 5-speed manual transmission. The FWD manual transmission featured a viscous-based limited-slip differential, while the AWD was discontinued. Power was increased to 250 ps, and a driver’s airbag was standard on all V70 models.
Sitbelt pretensioners and load limiters were also part of the standard equipment, as was the Side Impact Protection System (SIPS). The second generation of the Volkswagen P2 platform shared major mechanical and styling commonality with the Volvo S60 saloon, offering a frontal area of 2.23m (2.67 sq) and a coefficient of drag of.30. It featured a heavily bonded construction, a facelift across all markets for 2005, a redesigned front fascia, tail and head lamps, clear covers, a center console and dashboard, and a new 6-speed automatic transmission. It was styled by British designer Peter Horbury, who said it was difficult to combine sports car style with the necessary limitations of a wagon back. The V70 of 2000 had the best combination of functionality on the back of the car, with a nice, elegant, sporty, soft, voluptuous front and two 12.5-liter tanks.Bi-Fuel models were only sold with the 2.4L (140 PS) non-tur. The V70 R AWD was unveiled in 2002 with silver exterior trim, roof rails, special Ocean Race floor mats, assorted badging, and upgraded standard equipment and styling touches. It was based on the PCC2 concept car from 2001 and was available with a Haldex-based all-wheel drive system, a 2.5L turbocharged five-cylinder engine, a 0-60 mph time of 5.9 seconds, an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph), a M66 six-speed manual transmission, or an Aisin AW55 five-speed automatic transmission. The car was equipped with high-performance braking capabilities, and the drivers could choose from three different settings. In a 2006 article titled “The Manwagon”, the Wall Street Journal linked the V70R to a trend “to lure speed-crazy guys with kids.” The V70 was offered for the first time with four- and six-cylinder engines in 2007 and received a mild facelift in 2011.
It received two of the two points in the pole test and was rated 28 of 37 points in Europe NCAP’s evaluation. In 2012, the V70 and XC70 received a redesigned bumper with chrome accents, a logo on the front grill, and revised indicators in the side mirrors. As part of a joint venture with Vattenfall, a Swedish energy company, Volvo converted two Volvo V70s to diesel-electric plug-in hybrid vehicles. The V70 PHEV test car uses an 11.3-kWh lithium-ion battery pack. The V70 and XC70 are a range of cars with different features and optional all-wheel-drive, including XC-only front and rear bumpers, side skirts, wheel arch extensions, additional exterior door trims, optional roof rails, an embossed “XC” feature, and various unique alloy wheels.
In 2011, Ocean Race Edition versions were unveiled, with special interior trim, decor, and details, and exterior colors limited to Ocean Race Blue Metallic or Electric Silver Metallic. The V70 was available with four-, five-, and six-cylinder engines, as well as Ford’s RTI navigation system and Sensus Infotainment System console. Dolby Pro-Logic systems, speaker upgrades, sub-woofers, audio systems, CD players, optional audio, Bluetooth streaming, and map upgrades can be performed via USB. Third-generation V70s are available with the BLIS blind-spot sensor system, which can detect a vehicle from a driver’s view.
