Honda Passport RKE Keyfob Programming

Easy to follow instructions on how to program the RKE Keyfob that comes standard on all Honda Passports manufactured in 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, and 2002.

Honda Passport 1994-1995 RKE Keyfob Programming

  1. Enter Programming Mode – Step 1

    LOCATE the Keyless Entry Receiver Module located beneath the Driver’s seat.

  2. Enter Programming Mode – Step 2

    LOCATE Keyless Entry Programming Button will be beneath the label on the Receiver. FEEL and LOCATE the square button beneath the label.

  3. Enter Programming Mode – Step 3

    INSERT your key and TURN the Ignition to the ON (II) position, just shy of cranking the engine, then to the OFF (I) position.

  4. Enter Programming Mode – Step 4

    PRESS and HOLD the Programming Button on the Receiver. The vehicle will emit 4 “chirps” followed by 5 quick “chirps” to confirm the vehicle has entered Programming Mode. (The vehicle will emit a “chirp” every 3 seconds while in Programming Mode)

  5. Enter Programming Mode – Step 5

    RELEASE the Programming Button.

  6. Program Remote

    WITHIN 30 seconds and AFTER the first audible “chirp,” PRESS the LOCK Button on the remote. The system will respond with a “chirp” confirming successful programming of the remote.

  7. Program Additional Remotes

    REPEAT Step 6 while in Programming Mode to program any additional remotes to your vehicle.

  8. Exit Programming Mode

    To EXIT Programming Mode, TURN the key to the ON (II) position then back to the OFF (I) position.

  9. Test Remotes

    EXIT vehicle, CLOSE doors and TEST all remotes. Programming is now complete.

Programming Notes:

  • Verify the following prior to following these instructions:
    • Your vehicle is equipped with keyless entry, and
    • You have a key fob remote that is compatible with your vehicle.
  • Obtain ALL remote transmitters for this vehicle.
  • You can program up to 4 remotes to your vehicle.

Honda Passport 1996-1997 RKE Keyfob Programming

  1. Enter Programming Mode – Step 1

    LOCATE Keyless Entry System Receiver Module (refer to Instruction Notes or Owner’s Manual for location).

  2. Enter Programming Mode – Step 2

    TURN Ignition to ON (just shy of cranking the engine).

  3. Enter Programming Mode – Step 3

    LOCATE the Green Button on the side of the Keyless Entry Receiver Module. It will be recessed and accessible with an object such as a pen or paperclip.

  4. Enter Programming Mode – Step 4

    PRESS the Green Button until the vehicle’s exterior lights or the LED on the Driver’s side dashboard illuminate, then RELEASE the Green Button. The vehicle has successfully entered Programming Mode when the lights illuminate.

  5. Program Remote

    WITHIN 5 seconds, PRESS and RELEASE the top button on the remote. The LED or exterior lights will turn OFF and the vehicle will “chirp” and flash the front lights to indicate successful programming of the remote.

  6. Program Additional Remotes

    REPEAT Steps 4 and 5 in order to program any additional remotes.

  7. EXIT Programming Mode

    TURN the ignition to OFF (I) and REMOVE the key to EXIT Programming Mode.

  8. Test Remotes

    TEST all remotes. Programming is now complete.

Programming Notes:

  • Verify the following prior to following these instructions:
    • Your vehicle is equipped with keyless entry, and
    • You have a key fob remote that is compatible with your vehicle.
  • Obtain ALL remote transmitters for this vehicle.
  • IMPORTANT: The Keyless Entry System Receiver will EITHER be under the Driver’s seat OR behind the Dashboard. Check the Driver’s seat first. MOVE the Driver’s seat forward to access the Keyless Entry System Receiver located on the floor beneath the Driver’s seat. IF the Keyless Entry System Receiver is NOT beneath the Driver’s seat, REMOVE the Dashboard panel located to the left and below the steering wheel in order to access the Keyless Entry System Receiver module.

 

Honda Passport 1998-2002 RKE Keyfob Programming

  1. Prepare Vehicle

    OPEN Driver’s door.

  2. Enter Programming Mode – Step 1

    INSERT key into the Ignition.

  3. Enter Programming Mode – Step 2

    TURN the Ignition to ACC and then to the LOCK position 3 times within 3 seconds.

  4. Enter Programming Mode – Step 3

    Within 10 seconds, CLOSE and OPEN the Driver’s door 2 times.

  5. Enter Programming Mode – Step 4

    TURN the Ignition to ACC and then to the LOCK position 3 times within 3 seconds.

  6. Enter Programming Mode – Step 5

    Within 10 seconds, CLOSE and OPEN the Driver’s door once. The vehicle will respond by cycling the locks indicating that the vehicle has successfully entered Programming Mode.

  7. Program Remote – Step 1

    Within 20 seconds, PRESS the LOCK Button on the remote to be programmed. The vehicle will respond by cycling the locks LOCK/UNLOCK.

  8. Program Remote – Step 2

    Within 20 seconds, PRESS the UNLOCK Button on the remote to be programmed. The vehicle will respond by cycling the locks LOCK/UNLOCK signaling successful programming of the remote.

  9. Program Additional Remotes

    REPEAT Steps 7 and 8 for each additional remote to be programmed to the vehicle.

  10. Exit Programming Mode

    REMOVE the key from the Ignition to EXIT Programming Mode.

  11. Test Remotes

    EXIT vehicle, CLOSE doors and TEST all remotes. Programming is now complete.

Honda Passport 2019-2022 RKE Keyfob Programming

To successfully program the RKE key fob on a Honda Passport from model years 2019, 2020, 2021, or 2022, you will need an OBD 2 Scan tool that has the keyfob programming function.
