Honda Accord RKE Keyfob Programming
This is a simple guide on how to program the RKE keyfob for Honda Accord models made in the years 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012.
Honda Accord 1991-1993 RKE Keyfob Programming
- Enter Programming Mode – Step 1
LOCATE the keyless entry system control module in your vehicle (likely located beneath the Driver’s seat).
- Enter Programming Mode – Step 2
LOCATE the keyless entry memory chip compartment on the control module.
- Enter Programming Mode – Step 3
REMOVE the circuit board compartment cover and REMOVE the keyless entry memory chip.
- Enter Programming Mode – Step 4
REPLACE the chip with the replacement chip that you were sent with your replacement remote to ENTER Programming Mode.
- Program Remote – Step 1
LOCATE the small “Reset Button” next to the keyless entry memory chip cover on the control module.
- Program Remote – Step 2
PRESS the “Reset Button” for a few seconds in order to ACTIVATE your new remote.
- Test Remotes
TEST all remotes. Programming is now complete.
Programming Notes:
- Verify the following prior to following these instructions:
- Your vehicle is equipped with keyless entry, and
- You have a key fob remote that is compatible with your vehicle.
- Obtain ALL remote transmitters for this vehicle.
- You will need the original remote’s memory chip on hand in order to successfully program a new remote. This will be found in the keyless entry system control module, not the remote itself.
Honda Accord 1994-2002 RKE KeyFob Programming
- Prepare Vehicle
TURN Ignition to the ON (II) position (just shy of cranking engine).
- Enter Programming Mode
PRESS and HOLD the VALET/DISARM Button located between the AM/FM and CD/TAPE Buttons. The vehicle will respond by cycling the door locks LOCK/UNLOCK, indicating successful entry into Programming Mode. HOLD the VALET/DISARM Button UNTIL instructed to RELEASE.
- Program Remote
WITHIN 5 seconds, PRESS the LOCK or UNLOCK Button on the remote. The vehicle will respond by cycling the door locks LOCK/UNLOCK, indicating successful programming of the remote.
- Program Additional Remotes
WITHIN 10 seconds, REPEAT Step 3 to program any additional remotes.
- Exit Programming Mode
RELEASE the VALET/DISARM Button to EXIT Programming Mode.
- Test Remotes
TEST all remotes. Programming is now complete.
Programming Notes:
- Verify the following prior to following these instructions:
- Your vehicle is equipped with keyless entry, and
- You have a key fob remote that is compatible with your vehicle.
- Obtain ALL remote transmitters for this vehicle.
- You MUST have the original factory radio for this procedure to work.
If above tutorial is not applicable to your Honda Accord 1994-2002 Model , Please follow the instruction below.
- Prepare Vehicle
ENTER the vehicle and CLOSE and UNLOCK ALL doors.
- Prepare Remote(s)
INSERT the key into the Ignition, HOLD one remote in your left hand with additional remotes close by.
- Enter Programming Mode – Step 1
EACH of the following steps MUST be completed within 5 seconds of one another. REPEAT these steps 3 times:
a. TURN the Ignition to the ON (II) position.
b. PRESS and HOLD the LOCK button on the remote for approximately 1 second.
c. TURN the Ignition to the OFF (I) position.
- Enter Programming Mode – Step 2
TURN the Ignition to the ON (II) position.
- Enter Programming Mode – Step 3
PRESS the LOCK button on the same remote. The door locks will cycle LOCK / UNLOCK indicating the vehicle has successfully entered Programming Mode.
- Program Remote
WITHIN 5 seconds, PRESS the LOCK button AGAIN on the same remote. The door locks should cycle again LOCK / UNLOCK indicating the vehicle has successfully PROGRAMMED the remote.
- Program Additional Remotes
To Program any additional remotes to your vehicle, REPEAT Step 6 with each additional remote one after another WITHIN 5 seconds of one another.
- EXIT Programming Mode
TURN the ignition to OFF (I) and REMOVE the key to EXIT Programming Mode.
- Trunk Release Programming
After successful programming, if your remote has a TRUNK RELEASE Button — you will need to PRESS and HOLD that button down for 5-10 seconds for that function to begin operation.
- Test Remotes
EXIT vehicle, CLOSE all doors and TEST all remotes. Programming is now complete.
Programming Notes:
- Verify the following prior to following these instructions:
- Your vehicle is equipped with keyless entry, and
- You have a key fob remote that is compatible with your vehicle.
- Obtain ALL remote transmitters for this vehicle.
- If you have a remote head key with a transponder chip, this procedure will ONLY program the remote portion. You’ll need a Professional Auto Locksmith to cut and program the transponder key that will start the vehicle.
- If you have a remote head key without a transponder chip, this procedure WILL work for your vehicle.
- This procedure DOES NOT work for smart proximity remote key fobs.
- You MAY program up to 3 remotes to your vehicle.
Honda Accord 2003-2012 RKE KeyFob Programming
- Prepare Vehicle
ENTER the vehicle and CLOSE and UNLOCK ALL doors.
- Prepare Remote(s)
INSERT the key into the Ignition, HOLD one remote in your left hand with additional remotes close by.
- Enter Programming Mode – Step 1
EACH of the following steps MUST be completed within 5 seconds of one another. REPEAT these steps 3 times:

- EXIT Programming Mode

b. PRESS and HOLD the LOCK button on the remote for approximately 1 second.
c. TURN the Ignition to the OFF (I) position.
d. During the fourth (4) cycle of these steps, the door locks should cycle LOCK/UNLOCK indicating the vehicle has successfully entered Programming Mode.
- Program Remote
WITHIN 5 seconds, PRESS the LOCK button AGAIN on the same remote. The door locks should cycle LOCK/UNLOCK again indicating the vehicle has successfully PROGRAMMED that remote.
- Program Additional Remotes
To Program any additional remotes to your vehicle, REPEAT Step 4 with each additional remote one after another WITHIN 5 seconds of one another.
- EXIT Programming Mode
TURN the ignition to OFF (I) and REMOVE the key to EXIT Programming Mode.
- Trunk Release Programming
After successful programming, if your remote has a TRUNK RELEASE Button — you will need to PRESS and HOLD that button down for 5-10 seconds for that function to begin operation.
- Test Remotes

Honda Accord 2013-2022 RKE Keyfob Programming
You need an OBD 2 Scan tool with the keyfob programming feature in order to program the RKE keyfob on a Honda Accord model year 2013 through 2022.
