Ford F-Series RKE Keyfob Programming
The complete instruction on how to program the RKE keyfob on Ford F-Series F150, F250, F350, F450, F550, F650, F750 from the years 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 to 2020. 1994-1997 Ford F-Series RKE Keyfob Programming
- Enter Programming Mode – Step 1
INSERT key into ignition and TURN from OFF to RUN/ACC.
OFF is the position where you can remove your key, RUN/ACC is the position just shy of starting your vehicle.
- Enter Programming Mode – Step 2
LOCATE the Programming Connector located at the base of the Steering Wheel Column.
The Programming Connector consists of 2 wires and a plastic plug terminator with 2 pins.
The pins will NOT be connected to anything.
- Enter Programming Mode – Step 3
JUMP the 2 pins in the Programming Connector using a suitable metal jumping wire (example – paperclip).
- Program Remote
PRESS any button on the remote to be programmed.
Door locks will cycle Lock/Unlock to confirm successful programming of the remote.
REPEAT this step IMMEDIATELY for any other remotes to be programmed to your vehicle.
- Exit Programming Mode
TURN ignition to OFF to exit Programming Mode.
The vehicle locks will cycle Lock/Unlock to indicate successful completion of programming.
- Test Remotes
Test all remotes. Programming is now complete.
Important:
- Verify the following prior to following these instructions:
- Your vehicle is equipped with keyless entry, and
- You have a key fob remote that is compatible with your vehicle.
- Obtain all remote transmitters for this vehicle. This procedure will erase all previously programmed remotes. You must program all existing and new remotes that you wish to use on the vehicle at this time.
- You may clear your keyless entry system memory by entering programming mode as shown in the steps above.
Note: If your vehicle cannot enter programming mode, then you cannot program any remote. This indicates either no keyless entry installed on the vehicle or a defective keyless entry receiver module.
1999-2010 Ford F-Series Keyfob RKE Programming
- Preparatory Steps
Do NOT DEPRESS the brake pedal during this procedure.
CLOSE and UNLOCK all doors using the power door locks.
- Enter Vehicle Programming Mode
INSERT key into Ignition and TURN from OFF to RUN 8 times within 10 seconds, with the 8th time ending in RUN. Door locks will cycle to confirm Programming Mode.
- Program Remote
Within 20 seconds press any button on first keyless remote fob. Door locks will cycle to confirm programming.
(Repeat immediately for any additional remotes to be programmed.)
- Exit Programming Mode
Turn ignition to OFF. Locks will again cycle to indicate end of programming mode.
- Test Remotes
Test all remotes. Programming is now complete.
Important:
- Verify the following prior to following these instructions:
- Your vehicle is equipped with keyless entry, and
- You have a key fob remote that is compatible with your vehicle.

2011-2020 Ford F-Series RKE Keyfob Programming (REMOTE HEAD KEY)
- Prepare Vehicle for Programming
ENTER the vehicle and CLOSE the Driver’s Door.
- Confirm First Programmed Key – Step 1
INSERT the first previously programmed transponder key into the ignition.
- Confirm First Programmed Key – Step 2
TURN the ignition from Position 1 (LOCK/OFF) to Position 3 (RUN). KEEP the ignition in Position 3 (RUN) for at least 3 seconds, but no more than 10 seconds.
- Confirm First Programmed Key – Step 3
TURN the ignition to Position 1 (LOCK/OFF) and REMOVE the first key from the ignition.
- Confirm Second Programmed Key – Step 1
Within 10 seconds of turning the ignition to Position 1 (LOCK/OFF), INSERT the second previously programmed key into the ignition.
- Confirm Second Programmed Key – Step 2
TURN the ignition from Position 1 (LOCK/OFF) to Position 3 (RUN). KEEP the ignition in Position 3 (RUN) for at least 3 seconds, but no more than 10 seconds.
- Confirm Second Programmed Key – Step 3
TURN the ignition to Position 1 (LOCK/OFF) and REMOVE the second key from the ignition.
- Program New Remote Head Key – Step 1
Within 20 seconds of turning the ignition to Position 1 (LOCK/OFF) and removing the second key, INSERT the NEW un-programmed key into the ignition.
- Program New Remote Head Key – Step 2
TURN the ignition from Position 1 (LOCK/OFF) to Position 3 (RUN). KEEP the ignition in Position 3 (RUN) for at least 6 seconds.
- Exit Programming Mode
REMOVE the NEW key from the ignition.
If the key was successfully programmed, the theft indicator light will illuminate for 3 seconds and then go out to indicate successful programming of the key.
If the key was NOT successfully programmed, the theft indicator light will FLASH on and off. Wait 20 seconds and repeat the process from Step 1.
- Test Remotes
TEST all remotes. Programming is complete.
Important:
- Verify the following prior to following these instructions:
- Your vehicle is equipped with keyless entry, and
- You have a key fob remote that is compatible with your vehicle.
- Remote Head Key Programming
- You must have 2 working transponder chip remote head keys in order to program a new remote head key without the assistance of a professional.
- The key to be programmed must be cut prior to beginning this programming procedure.
- To program any additional new keys, wait 20 seconds and REPEAT this procedure.
Note: If your vehicle cannot enter programming mode, then you cannot program any remote. This indicates either no keyless entry installed on the vehicle or a defective keyless entry receiver module.
2011-2020 Ford F-Series RKE Keyfob Programming (FLIP KEY)
- Confirm First Programmed Key – Step 1
INSERT the first previously programmed transponder key into the ignition.
- Confirm First Programmed Key – Step 2
TURN the ignition from OFF to ON. KEEP the ignition ON for at least 3 seconds, but no more than 10 seconds.
- Confirm First Programmed Key – Step 3
TURN the ignition OFF and REMOVE the first key from the ignition.
- Confirm Second Programmed Key – Step 1
After 3 seconds, but within 10 seconds of turning the ignition OFF, INSERT the second previously programmed key into the ignition.
- Confirm Second Programmed Key – Step 2
TURN the ignition from OFF to ON. KEEP the ignition ON for at least 3 seconds, but no more than 10 seconds.
- Confirm Second Programmed Key – Step 3
TURN the ignition OFF and REMOVE the second key from the ignition.
- Program New Flip Key – Step 1
After 3 seconds but within 10 seconds of turning the ignition OFF and removing the second key, INSERT the NEW un-programmed key into the ignition.
- Program New Flip Key – Step 2
TURN the ignition from OFF to ON. KEEP the ignition ON for at least 6 seconds.
- Exit Programming Mode
REMOVE the NEW key from the ignition.
If the key was successfully programmed, it will operate the remote entry system and start the vehicle’s engine.
If the key was NOT successfully programmed, it will NOT work the remote entry system or start the vehicle’s engine. Wait 20 seconds and repeat the process from Step 1.
- Test Remotes
TEST all remotes. Programming is complete.
Important:
- Verify the following prior to following these instructions:
- Your vehicle is equipped with keyless entry, and
- You have a key fob remote that is compatible with your vehicle.
- You must have 2 working transponder chip remote head keys in order to program a new remote head key without the assistance of a professional.

2011-2020 Ford F-Series RKE Keyfob Programming (PROXIMITY SMART KEY FOB REMOTE)
- Confirm First Programmed Smart Key – Step 1
PLACE the first programmed smart key in the backup slot in the center console.
The key ring MUST be at the top with the buttons facing towards the FRONT of the vehicle.
- Confirm First Programmed Smart Key – Step 2
PRESS the START/STOP button on the vehicle.
- Confirm First Programmed Smart Key – Step 3
WAIT 5 seconds and PRESS the START/STOP button on the vehicle AGAIN.
- Confirm First Programmed Smart Key – Step 4
REMOVE the first programmed key from the center console.
- Confirm Second Programmed Smart Key – Step 1
Within 10 seconds, PLACE the second programmed smart key in the backup slot in the center console.
- Confirm Second Programmed Smart Key – Step 2
PRESS the START/STOP button on the vehicle.
- Confirm Second Programmed Smart Key – Step 3
WAIT 5 seconds and PRESS the START/STOP button on the vehicle AGAIN.

REMOVE the second programmed key from the center console.
- Program New Smart Key – Step 1
WAIT 5 seconds and PLACE the NEW un-programmed smart key in the backup slot in the center console.
- Program New Smart Key – Step 2
PRESS the START/STOP button on the vehicle.
- Program New Smart Key – Step 3
WAIT 5 seconds and PRESS the START/STOP button on the vehicle AGAIN.
- Test Remotes
TEST all remotes. Programming is complete.

- Your vehicle is equipped with keyless entry, and
- You have a key fob remote that is compatible with your vehicle.
- You MUST have 2 working smart keys (keys that start your vehicle) in order to perform this programming procedure without the assistance of a professional.
- A MAXIMUM of 4 smart keys can be programmed to your vehicle. If you’ve had 4 programmed in the past, seek the assistance of a professional programmer.
- Ensure that the vehicle is OFF prior to beginning this procedure. CLOSE all doors prior to beginning this procedure.
- You MUST perform ALL steps within 30 seconds of starting the programming procedure.
- You MUST wait 60 seconds before repeating the procedure after an unsuccessful attempt.
Note: If your vehicle cannot enter programming mode, then you cannot program any remote. This indicates either no keyless entry installed on the vehicle or a defective keyless entry receiver module.
