HOW TO DIAGNOSE SUZUKI 6 PINS OBD1

Accessing Code

  • Trouble codes are displayed by the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL).
  • Switch ignition ON.
  • Check that MIL illuminates.
  • Bridge data link connector (DLC) terminals 1 and 2 Fig. 1 .
  • Count MIL flashes. Note trouble codes. Compare with trouble code table.
  • If MIL remains illuminated: Suspect faulty engine control module (ECM).
  • Each trouble code consists of two groups of one or more flashes.
  • A 1 second pause separates each trouble code group.
  • A 3 second pause separates each trouble code.
  • MIL flash duration: 0,3 second.
  • For example: Two 0,3 second flashes – 1 second pause – one 0,3 second flash. Trouble code 21 displayed Fig. 2 .
  • Remove bridge wire.
  • Switch ignition OFF.

Erasing code

  • Ensure ignition switched OFF.
  • Disconnect battery earth lead for 60 seconds minimum.

WARNING: Disconnecting the battery may erase memory from electronic units (e.g. radio, clock). Reconnect battery earth lead.

  • Run engine until it reaches normal operating temperature.
  • Repeat checking procedure to ensure no data remains in ECM fault memory.

NOTE: Battery earth lead removal duration depends on ambient temperature. The lower the temperature the longer the battery earth lead must be removed. The process may not be successful, if the temperature is below 0°C (32°F). Locate a workplace with a higher temperature before attempting to erase trouble codes.
